Old Fashioned

Classic bourbon whisky cocktail made with sugar, Angostura bitters and soda water.

40ml bourbon whisky – our choice is Maker’s Mark
1 sugar cube
2 dashes Angostura bitters
1 splash soda water

Put the sugar cube in a whisky tumbler and add the Angostura bitters and soda water. Muddle until the sugar is dissolved. Fill the glass with ice cubes and add the bourbon whisky. The traditional garnish is an orange slice, a lemon twist and two maraschino cherries.

Records are not definitive, but many believe the Old Fashioned to be the first drink to be called a cocktail. To experience it the way it was made in the early 1800s, substitute the bourbon whisky for a rye whisky like Jim beam Rye.
