Old Crow Reserve is Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky from Beam Global, the company behind Jim Beam. Having been released in 2010, it is relatively new. But unlike many new bourbons and other American whiskies, there are no gimmicks, like odd flavourings or marketing tricks. This is low cost, good quality bourbon. Nothing more, nothing less.

And for that fact alone, we love it.

The name Old Crow is one of the most famous in the history of bourbon and American whisky. It has a heritage that goes back to 1830 and is one of the oldest consumer brands in the US. It has existed in some form ever since, peaking in the years after World War 2 when it competed with Jim Beam for the crown of best selling bourbon whisky.

When Beam Global bought National Distillers in 1987 Old Crow became part of its portfolio.

Old Crow Reserve is different to (and better than) standard Old Crow in that it is a year older, being aged for 4 years instead of 3. It still tastes young, but it is not harsh. Rather it is impressively rounded, even though it has a higher alcohol content - 43% ABV instead of 40% ABV.

Old Crow Reserve is a good bourbon whisky, particularly as an every-day drinker or as a mixer.
