E H Taylor Straight Rye is part of the premium range of whiskies from the Buffalo Trace Distillery. It is one of 5 which are bottled under the E H Taylor brand.

It is named after the one-time owner of Buffalo Trace, Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor Jnr. During his life he had a huge impact on the American whisky industry and his legacy lives on today, not least because of his involvement in the introduction of the Bottled in Bond act.

This was a law past in 1897 to give consumers confidence in the quality of the whisky they were buying. Colonel E H Taylor was an influential supporter of the law which allowed whisky producers to add "Bottled in Bond" to their labels providing certain criteria were met during production. This included the requirement that the whisky must be the product of one distillery and a single season, as well as the requirement that it be aged in a bonded warehouse for at least four years and then be bottled at 100 proof (50% ABV).

E H Taylor Straight Rye honours that tradition by meeting all of these criteria. "Bottled in Bond" is therefore proudly printed on the label.

It is a rye whisky made with a mashbill of just rye and malted barley (unlike bourbon whisky which also includes corn). The balance is spot-on, with both sweet and savoury flavours. Think spice and caramel, with an oaky, dry finish.
