Thomas H Handy Sazerac 2012 is part of the well respected Antique Collection from the Buffalo Trace Distillery. Thomas H Handy rye whiskies were added to the collection in 2006. They are made from small batches of barrels, are incredibly nuanced and are only released once a year. All are therefore much in demand.

The immediate predecessor to this 2012 version, Thomas H Handy Sazerac 2011, was named the World Whisky of the Year by the well respected whisky critic, Jim Murray. So the 2012 release had a lot to live up to, and it does so magnificently well.

The nose, taste and finish are complex, spicy and vibrant. It is bottled uncut and unfiltered straight from the barrel at a very high ABV 66.2%. While that is strong, on this occasion the high alcohol content adds to the experience and helps to bring out all the flavours.

Thomas H Handy Sazerac 2012 was distilled by Buffalo Trace in the spring of 2006 and was then aged on the fifth floor of warehouse O. A limited number were produced so it can be hard to find in the UK with connoisseurs and collectors snapping up bottles as soon as they become available.
