George T Stagg is a brand of bourbon whisky released once a year by the Buffalo Trace Distillery. This is the 2012 version. As with previous years, it is a powerhouse, with some critics describing it as the best bourbon whisky they have ever tasted.

George T Stagg is an uncompromising brand of bourbon that defines the description "robust". The range is part of Buffalo Trace's Antique Collection and George T Stagg is undeniably the alpha-male in the family. All George T Stagg releases are intense and packed with flavours. Plus, they are all bottled at extraordinarily high proofs so they pack quite a punch.

George T Stagg 2012 is no different. It was made using bourbon whisky that was distilled in spring 1995 and was then aged in Buffalo Trace's H, I, K and L warehouses. It was bottled uncut and unfiltered at a whopping ABV 71.4%.

At this alcohol strength and with this flavour profile, George T Stagg 2012 is a bourbon that has to be taken seriously, however it is not as aggressive as some of the releases from previous years. The difference is not massive though - this is still George T Stagg. The slight tempering of its ferocity does not dramatically change its character but it is welcome and adds panache to this 2012 release.

This is bourbon whisky that is both raw and perfect.

To allow the flavours to fully open up add a drop of water, but not too much. Do not allow ice cubes to even be in the same room, let alone in the same glass, as this bourbon whisky. George T Stagg 2012 deserves to be taken on head-on, with the resulting mouth explosion and fire being all part of the experience.

George T Stagg 2012, like the previous releases in the range, are available in very limited quantities. That means it can be hard to find as it is coveted by collectors and connoisseurs alike. When you do get your hands on a bottle or glass, savour every pure and unadulterated drop.
