Jack Daniel's Holiday Select 2011 is the first edition of a new annual limited edition. So this whisky has a double appeal - it is a limited edition and it is the first release of this particular limited edition series.

So, what is it all about? The whisky in Jack Daniel's Holiday Select 2011 came out of 187 barrels. There is more to it though. The 187 barrels not only contributed to making the whisky: they were also used to create the 2011 Christmas display in the town square in Lynchburg (the home of the Jack Daniel's Distillery). This display was essentially a pyramid of whisky barrels with green tinsel draped around it, set within a rustic hay bail perimeter. (It was a bit tacky really.)

The bottle is obviously modeled on the one used for Jack Daniel's Single Barrel. That is not a bad thing, as it is a beautiful design. Is that enough to warrant the UK price tag?

The whisky inside the bottle is 100 proof (50% ABV) Jack Daniel's so on that basis, no. A bottle of Jack Daniel's Silver Select is almost half the price.

Jack Daniel's Holiday Select 2011 is a collector's item, however, so the price will be influenced by the limited number of bottles available to buy. It will also be influenced by the commitment of Jack Daniel's to continue with the series. For that, we will have to wait.

All that notwithstanding, for fans of Jack Daniel's, Jack Daniel's Holiday Select 2011 is a must-have.
