Parker’s Heritage Collection Barrel Finished is the 5th in a special series from Heaven Hill. They are named after the distillery’s master distiller, Parker Beam. He handcrafts each release, experimenting and pushing the boundaries of bourbon whisky making.

Parker’s Heritage Collection Barrel Finished was released in 2011. Parker Beam collaborated with famous 6th generation cognac maker Alain Royer in its development.

But that bit comes later. First to the bourbon whisky - this was made with the same recipe as Evan Williams Single Barrel (another limited edition offering from Heaven Hill). It was then aged for 10 years in the higher parts of the barrel house so it could experience as much seasonal temperature variation as possible.

Here is where the cognac man comes in.  After maturation the bourbon whisky was removed from the new oak barrels it had been slumbering in and was put in used cognac barrels - huge, Grande Champagne Cognac barrels from Frapin Cellars in France. It spent 6 months in these barrels before being bottled in the traditional Parker’s Heritage Collection bottle.

So Parker’s Heritage Collection Barrel Finished is bourbon whisky finished with cognac.

Alain Royer sums it up nicely, saying Parker’s Heritage Collection Barrel Finished is “structured” (carefully selected bourbon whisky), “integrated” (with the cognac) and “thoroughly enjoyable to drink”.
