William Larue Weller 2011 is part of the Antique Collection from Buffalo Trace. It is a premium range of whisky brands, each released just once a year. William Larue Weller is one of the best in the range.

It is a wheat recipe bourbon whisky so the mash contains no rye. Generally this makes for a smoother bourbon whisky but William Larue Weller has far more depth than a simple explanation like that.

Firstly it is aged so has many layers to its taste. Then it is barrel proof, hitting the bottle at ABV 66.75%. It takes a bold distiller to spoon his whisky from the barrel uncut into the bottle, but with William Larue Weller 2011 the whisky makers at Buffalo Trace have nothing to worry about. It is a big and bold bourbon, but it is also superb.

William Larue Weller 2011 is a sultry bourbon whisky that caresses the tongue, delights the senses and...okay, that is a bit over-the-top.

It is a damned good bourbon though – a future legend.
