Seagram’s 7 Crown is a Canadian blended whisky. Its history is long, distinguished and varied. The whisky is smooth and one of the best available blended whiskies in this price range.

It all started in 1857 with the founding of a distillery in Waterloo in Ontario in Canada. By 1883 Joseph E Seagram was the sole owner of the distillery and he renamed it after himself. The distillery continued to produce whisky until the late 1990s when it was closed. Seagram’s 7 Crown is now blended from whiskies made in other distilleries.

Joseph E Seagram died in 1919 and in 1928 his company was sold to Distillers Corporation. Being a Canadian company it prospered greatly during and immediately after prohibition in America. Its head, Samuel Bronfman, has even been connected to bootleggers who brought alcohol into the United States during the dry years.

This laid the foundation so that by the 1980s Seagram had become one of the biggest drinks companies in the world. It has been broken up now, with the Seagram’s 7 Crown brand now owned by Diageo.

Seagram’s 7 Crown is connected by many people to the drink 7 and 7. To make 7 and 7 mix one quarter Seagram’s 7 Crown whisky with three quarters 7 Up (or any other lemonade) in a tall glass with ice.
