Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve 9 Year Old is part of Jim Beam’s small batch collection, which includes other brands like Basil Hayden’s and Baker’s. Like the Knob Creek Small Batch version, the Single Barrel is aged for an impressive nine years. Even more attention is paid to the Single Barrel, however, as it is bottled from one cask.

It goes into the bottle at a close-to-barrel-strength ABV 60% so it is not for the uninitiated. For those who appreciate good whisky though, this is full-bodied sipping bourbon that will not disappoint. The nine years spent in the barrel gives it an extra sweetness, both in aroma and taste.

It comes in an old-style bottle reminiscent of a flask. On the label there is newsprint. This goes back to the old practice by distilleries of wrapping bourbon and whisky in newspaper.

When the small batch range was introduced by Jim Beam, they said they wanted to make bourbons the way they used to be made, before the real advances in mass production and distribution became common. With Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve, they have done a good job.
