The increasingly popular Maker’s Mark Distillery produces frequent, limited edition commemorative bottles. They make so many even they do not have a definitive list. They are produced in very small quantities so quickly become collectors’ items after the initial surge of interest from whoever the bottle is targeted at. This might be fans of a sports team or members of a political party.

The wax used to seal the bottle is typically the only difference between each commemorative bottle. The bourbon whisky inside is the standard Maker’s Mark available in most supermarkets and off-licences in the UK – the one with the red wax seal. The seal on this particular release is red over white wax which we understand to be the Alabama State Pride 2009 National Championship limited edition. However, please check with the seller to confirm this before purchasing.

It is an unusual marketing strategy but Maker’s Mark is famous for going against the grain -- in the literal sense as well as per the cliché as they use wheat instead of rye to make their bourbon whisky. These bottles with different coloured wax seals are, however, becoming popular with collectors, hence the increasingly expensive price tags. More...
