Bourbon Whisky is about American whisky – Kentucky bourbon and Tennessee whisky predominantly. However, we decided to include this bottle of Waterfill and Frazier 6 Year Old from Mexico because it is part of American whiskey history.

The original distillery was founded in the early 1800s. In the early 1900s it was owned by Kentucky businesswoman Mary Dowling. When prohibition was introduced in the US, she relocated the Waterfill and Frazier Distillery to Juarez in Mexico. In Mexico, whisky continued to be bottled under the Waterfill and Frazier name throughout the 1900s. In the 1960s the description “bourbon” was dropped from the name to become simply Straight Whiskey”.

This particular example was bottled in the 1970s and was aged for six years (we understand the whisky is aged in used bourbon barrels). More...
