Old Rip Van Winkle 12 Year Old Special Reserve is described by its producers as “nectar” that is “sweet” and “full-bodied”. We -- and just about everyone else who has tried this bourbon whisky -- agree.

Old Rip Van Winkle is an iconic brand loved by amateurs and experts alike. The range wins numerous awards and is always given very high ratings. Today it is made by the Buffalo Trace Distillery.

The recipe is the same as when Old Rip Van Winkle first went into production in the early 1900s – it is a wheat recipe bourbon whisky. That means wheat is used instead of rye giving a smoother taste.

Old Rip Van Winkle Special Reserve spends 12 years aging. This is a long time for a bourbon and is testament to the distiller’s confidence and patience. It is bottled at a high-ish ABV 45.2%.

The maturity of Old Rip Van Winkle Special Reserve is evident. It is a rich, elegant and well-crafted bourbon whisky that beautifully balances age and strength. More...
