Jack Daniel’s Inaugural was released in 1984 and 1985 to mark the 80th anniversary of US president Theodore Roosevelt’s first inauguration. What made Roosevelt so special to warrant such a beautiful decanter and commemorative whisky?

It goes back a time when Jack Daniel was running the Jack Daniel’s Distillery -- 1907 to be exact. Roosevelt had been president since 1901 and went to Nashville in Tennessee to make a speech.

Jack Daniel was so enamoured by the young president that when he got back to his distillery he made plans to send Roosevelt a special bottle of whisky to mark his anticipated inauguration in 1908, following re-election. Roosevelt scuppered the plans by deciding not to run for re-election, going on an African safari instead.

The idea of a special bottle was shelved until 1984, the 80th anniversary of Roosevelt’s 1904 inauguration, when the Jack Daniel’s Distillery released this decanter. More...
