The anniversary this Jack Daniel’s special edition is celebrating is the date on which whisky making in the US became official.

Before 1866 distilleries in America did not have to register. This was not a situation liked by many people, including a 16-year-old Jack Daniel. Even at such a young age, he was a relentless promoter of the whisky he made and wanted to legitimise the industry he was so passionate about.

In 1866, the US congress passed legislation that distilleries had to be registered.

Jack Daniel was first in line. Official records list the Jack Daniel’s Distillery as Distillery No.1. That is why the company uses the marketing slogan “American’s oldest registered distillery” to this day.

This bottle is a special 1 litre decanter that was released in 1990. Today it is very hard to get, hence the price tag when it is available. More...
